Eat a PB&J!

January 23, 2009

In support of our Florida Peanut farmers and to show that I am an educated consumer, I packed one large, whole-wheat, peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich for lunch today.

All food poisoning outbreaks are scary but knowing the facts can help alleviate confusion and fear. One fact many consumers do not realize about the peanut butter/paste recall occurring right now is that it does NOT apply to most major brands of jarred peanut butter found in your grocery store. The FDA and CDC have traced the source of contamination to a plant owned by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA manufactures peanut butter and paste that are distributed to food manufactures. The recall applies to a limited amount of food products containing peanut butter or peanut butter paste like cakes, cookies, crackers, candies, cereal and ice cream.

For the most up-to-date and accurate information available, visit the websites listed below. You can find a full list of recalled products along with a list of products NOT affected by the recall.

Food and Drug Administration

American Peanut Council

National Peanut Board

If it’s not the recall that’s holding you back from opening that jar of peanut butter but a need for a delicious recipe, try one of these:

Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookies

Florida Peanut Noodles with Shrimp

I voted for smooth ’cause it is easier to spread on a piece of bread with out breaking the bread…but either is fine; lol (only I would think this way)

It’s the saying “…sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t…” and that’s why I voted for both. Sometimes you just gotta switch it up and break the norm.

Now which jelly to use…that’s a different battle for another day.
