Florida Strawberry Festival Coming Soon

February 12, 2009

If you love strawberries as much as I do, you’ll want to know about Florida’s premier event celebrating these delicious little beauties – the Florida Strawberry Festival.

The event will be held February 26 through March 8 at the Festival grounds in Plant City, Florida.  In addition to showcasing strawberries, well-known musical and variety acts will be on hand to entertain attendees.  There will be rides, exhibits, arts & crafts, and competitions in baking, cake decorating and canned goods, plus a ton of other activities.

Then, of course, are the strawberries!  I have never seen more shortcake in one place than I have in past Strawberry Festivals.  Yum!  The berries that are featured at the Festival are locally-grown, so you know that you’re getting the freshest and sweetest berries possible.  It is fitting that the Festival is held in Plant City, the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World.

The Florida Strawberry Growers Association works with the growers who supply not just the Festival but the world with fresh strawberries.  What a treat it is to eat them and celebrate their goodness!

To learn more about the 2009 Strawberry Festival or the FSGA, click on the links or call 813-754-1996 (Festival) or 813-752-6822 (FSGA).  If you can’t make it to the Festival this year, Florida strawberries are currently being harvested and should available in most grocery stores.  Check out the Department’s recipe site for great ways to use those fresh, delicious berries.  Enjoy!
