Ag in the News

February 20, 2009

This week in the news:

Floridians are applying for food stamps at record-breaking rates.  Almost half a million more people signed up for food stamps this year, a 29% increase.

In politcal news, Adam Putnam has officially kicked off his campaign for Florida Agriculture Commissioner and Michelle Obama thanked USDA employees.

Do you live near a fast food restaurant?  This new study suggests you are more likely to have a stroke if you do (unless you eat fresh FL produce instead like we recommend :)).

On the food safety issue – The Georgia Department of Agriculture is trying to convince the public that peanuts are safe eat following the salmonella outbreak that sickened over 600 people, and Ag Secretary Vilsack is sending a letter to meatpackers with new labeling guidelines

We are all jealous that we don’t live closer to Miami.
