Epcot’s Fresh from Florida Weekend 2010 – Erickson Farm

July 14, 2010

At Erickson Farm, farming truly is a family business.  Father Dale and daughters Krista and Kim run the farm on the shore of Lake Okeechobee that has been in the family since 1911.

The Ericksons grow tropical fruits, vegetables and spices/leaves, and are known as growers of exceptional mangos.  (After having sampled some of their mangos, I second that opinion!)  I’ve been fortunate to work with the Ericksons at several events  and found that when you talk with one of them about their products, you can see the genuine love they have for farming and you come away knowing a little bit more about Florida agriculture.

Dale and Kim display some of their products at Epcot's Fresh from Florida Weekend 2010

On Sunday, July 18, the Ericksons are hosting Sample Sunday.  This is a family-friendly event where you can sample a wide variety of mangos, tour the farm, take a mini seminar and ask questions.  It is free and runs 10:00am to 6:00pm.  Erickson Farm is located at 13646 U.S. 441 in Canal Point.  For more information or directions, contact the farm at 561-924-7714.  If you get the chance, stop by the nearly 100-year old farm and find out why mangos are so exciting!
