It’s Muscadine Time!

August 24, 2010

Fresh from Florida wine stomping team

This past Saturday was FAMU’s Annual Grape Harvest Festival, which was held right here in Tallahassee at FAMU’s vineyard out on Mahan Drive near I-10.  The festival is put on by the university’s Center for Viticulture and Small Fruit Research and showcases the uses of the muscadine and bunch grape harvest in Florida.  About 2,000 people attended the festival this year and participated in a variety of events throughout the day, including a vineyard 5K, hot balloon rides, muscadine and fruit wine tastings, vineyard tours and, everyone’s favorite, the grape stomping competition.  It’s held every year around this time, so if you weren’t able to make it this weekend, plan on going next year!

Also, for all you runners out there, the legendary Herb Wills made a blog entry about the 5k!

I was in Tally this past weekend for something else and got caught in this traffic. If I would have had time, I would have stopped in.
