Dueling Banjos and Dueling Clams
On October 15 & 16th of this year, the city of Cedar Key held it’s annual seafood festival, but with a new twist for 2010. A special musical culinary event was held on Saturday, October 16th called Dueling Banjos/Dueling Clams.
Two of Florida’s celebrity chefs, Dean Max (Executive Chef at 3030 Ocean Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale) and Peter Stefani (owner of the Island Room in Cedar Key), each representing one coast of Florida, dueled against each other using recipes featuring clams from Sebastian and Cedar Key.
Chef Max prepared Sebastian Inlet Clams BBLT (Bacon, Basil, Lettuce and Tomato) and Chef Stefani made Cedar Key Clams with Mustard Greens and House-Smoked Tasso. Samples were given out to audience members who watched the battle.
What made this event so special is that there was also music from claw hammer banjo player Mark Johnson, who teamed up with Backwater, an Ocala-based bluegrass band. Take a look at the video below and you can get a taste of what attendees got to experience at the festival this year. Looks like it was a lot of fun!
