Native Ramblings…

Hey Man! Do you like my really cool glasses?

Have you seen this psychedelic fish in your neighborhood?  I understand that he is showing up in restaurants and seafood markets all over the state. Okay, I confess.  This cool looking fish’s statewide appearance is by design.  He’s sort of like the mascot of a really fun seafood campaign called Go Native!  We want to remind people to eat Florida seafood, instead of imports, just like native Floridians do.  Many of the restaurants and retailers who sell Florida seafood are displaying the campaign’s colorful signage and other materials to make sure their customers know what they sell.  But here’s the rub.  Even if you are a native Floridian like me and you do not see our cool little fish, you may not even know the origin of the seafood you’re eating.  Since I’m an “eat-local” kind of person, I usually ask restaurant and retail staff where the food I’m buying comes from.  I figure if you don’t ask, you won’t know.  Feel free to borrow my approach and do the same the next time you buy seafood.

Until next time…GO NATIVE!

Hi Phyllis! I was hoping you would talk about GO NATIVE! on here.. You know it is close to my heart 🙂 I saw a big GN poster in the window at Cabo’s here in town recently. The program was a really good idea.. I love knowing that my seafood is from here!

I love the artwork! It really stands out and shows off our graphic artists’ talents. Of course the campaign is equally great. Did you catch the article in USA Today and a few other publications last week about counterfeit seafood? Really stresses the importance of knowing where your food comes from. Here’s a link to the article for anyone who missed it: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-01-19-fake-foods_N.htm
